A new dish was introduced at Old Hen recently!
I was pretty unexcited when I heard that it was chicken breast. But the dashi got me. It gets me all the time.
Ochazuke is one of my favourite dishes to order in a restaurant. It’s not common in Singapore and there’s something about rice in soup that excites my tastebuds. The texture of rice grains swimming in broth is so comforting.
The dish was overall really homey, but it started to lose the flavour towards the end. Still a good option for me when I do visit the place again.
My friends had the set meals for lunch and it came with a small portion of soup or salad. And what a splendid bowl of soup it was. I usually don’t like pumpkin in soup – regardless of Chinese or Western style. But this was just too awesome. It wasn’t too sweet nor pasty. A just-right bowl of pumpkin soup. I would totally order this in its normal portion.
One of the highlights of this visit was getting to know (through R, because I am still an inconsistently awkward adult) that their tables were Ikea solid wood tops with customised bases. So this has become a furniture piece that Immanuel and I have included in our home concept.
A lovely day there, I would say.
